Eden
2018 | Beads, Paillettes, Cotton Brodcloth
This experimentation of embelishment started my interest in how we handle our clothes and fabrics. What started as an abstract idea of shapes, slowly turned into an iconic scene, after starting research into the heavily embellished saints in ossuaries around Europe. After free sewing with the beads, and amassing a form, I saw a resemblance to many apple trees depicted in the Garden of Eden. Taking this a step further, I decided to create my own environment around the apple tree. This piece was the start of my research into the handmade.
